My Toika Rug Loom

I have moved my rag rug operation to my new studio at the Granary, in Brandon, Vermont. This Finnish loom is extra sturdy and heavily built to withstand the pounding required to make a strong rug.

Working at the Loom

These pictures show me at my AVL loom at my home studio. I weave all the blankets and towels on this loom. If you look towards the right side of this photo, you can see the fly shuttle box on the beater- this device allows me to weave with speed. I hold the wooden handle and flick my wrist to shoot the shuttle with the weft yarn across to the other side of warp.
