Big Sky Farm Handweaving
Textiles for your Home - Beauty you can use
Hello, and welcome to my website! I have been weaving for over 40 years in my studio here in Shoreham, Vermont. Looking out my window at the weather changing and the sheep and cattle grazing, I produce household fabrics for everyday use: kitchen towels of cotton, linen, and rayon, wool blankets and throws, and rag rugs from recycled clothing. I prefer to use lots of colors in my work, inspired by my yarn collection, the natural world, and the latest trends in interiors. I do all my own designing and many of the pieces are one-of-a-kind.
Please take a moment to enjoy the video of weaving action. It shows me making a length of hand towel fabric with the fly shuttle on my AVL loom in my home. Just click on the "studio" tab above. Thanks to Taylor Umphenour for filming and editing, and to Gavin H. Greenewalt for adding the soundtrack and uploading the video.
It is with some regret that I have closed my studio in Brandon, after four happy years weaving rugs and meeting friends there. My rug loom is now back at home, installed in my daughters' old bedroom, along with my mountains of fabric! I will continue my mission of turning color into textiles to cheer and bring comfort to your home, while enjoying more time with my family: ten grandchildren now! Please call or e-mail if I can weave something for you.
Springtime, 2024:
The weaving continues- and back on target with in-person shows. Yes! The festivals are scheduled and ready for fun: please check the list for dates and locations. The inventory of hand towels is well-stocked, with plenty of colors available. I recently finished a new run of rag rugs; I am developing an intuitive, improvisational approach to their design, and they will surely enhance any room in your home. Wool is a fascinating fiber; experience warmth and vibrant color with blankets and throws woven in several kinds of patterns. This winter I have been working on smaller, wearable items: woolen scarves and wraps with graphic, playful style. As the weather gets sunny and hot, cotton and linen runners will grace the looms.
Feel free to contact me if you need a special gift or would just like to cheer up your home with some new textiles. I am happy to send photos of current work and arrange delivery.
Please come to the shows and join the excitement! Hope to see you soon-
